I took a few involuntary days off and took another fresh look at the code. Again, I have to observe that in the change after the introduction of alpha-conversion, I messed up, and missed a few opportunities to straighten out and simplify the code. I did a recount, and am at 9-10k undocumented KLoc. It seems I have taken the longest path to the most embarrassing trivial code.
